A State of Teal Press Release 2015

For Immediate Release - Birmingham, Alabama – August 4, 2015

The CanSurvive GYN Cancer Support Group, the Laura Crandall Brown Ovarian Cancer Foundation, and  the Norma Livingston Ovarian Cancer Foundation are excited to announce their collaboration by launching “A State Of Teal”, an awareness campaign for gynecologic cancers.  These include ovarian, cervical, uterine, vaginal, and vulvar cancers.  This is the fourth year since this effort was first established and it is making an impact across our state.

September is National Gynecologic Cancer Awareness Month. All three organizations are sponsoring an event in Birmingham at The Club on September 1st to kick off the state-wide campaign to raise awareness of these types of cancer, their impact on Alabama, the need for research and improved screening tests, and support for women battling these diseases. Tickets are available at www.AStateOfTeal.org/Tickets.

The Alabama State Capitol in Montgomery will be lit in teal on September 4th to commemorate Gynecologic Cancer Awareness Day as cited in a proclamation issued by Governor Bentley. Municipalities across the state will issue proclamations declaring September as GYN/Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month and city properties and other buildings/structures will be lit in teal all over the State of Alabama.

Companies and organizations statewide are joining with these foundations to support this awareness campaign.  A few of our confirmed supporters include:  Birmingham Barons and Regions Field, Alabama Power Company, The Birmingham-Jefferson Convention Center, as well as the Alabama Theatre, the Birmingham Zoo, Doubletree by Hilton Birmingham, Alabama Fire College in Tuscaloosa, Huntsville Hospital, the Mobile Infirmary Hospital, Mitchell Cancer Institute in Mobile, Linn-Henley Research Library, UAB, the Levite Jewish Community Center, Gardendale First Baptist Church, and the RSA Dexter Tower in Montgomery. More commitments are being made daily.
