September is National Gynecologic Cancer Awareness Month. In accordance with the need to raise awareness to these types of cancer, their impact on Alabama, the need for research and improved screening tests, and support for women battling these diseases, a major initiative was established to encourage cities and businesses across the state to participate in "A State of Teal."

The Laura Crandall Brown Foundation is excited to sponsor this awareness campaign for gynecologic cancers.  These include ovarian, cervical, uterine, vaginal, and vulvar cancers.  This is the fifth year since this effort was first established and it is making a great impact across our state.

In accordance with this campaign, The Honorable Walt Maddox, Mayor of the City of Tuscaloosa, presented a proclamation declaring September Gynecologic Cancer Awareness Month in the City of Tuscaloosa at the City Council meeting on Tuesday, August 23rd. On hand to accept the proclamation was Sandra Reed, Tuscaloosa resident and ovarian cancer survivor, and Doris Moody, A State of Teal committee member and Laura Crandall Brown Foundation board member.

Thanks to the City of Tuscaloosa and Mayor Maddox for helping us to raise awareness to GYN Cancer symptoms! Click to see additional photos (below lead photo).
