September is National Gynecologic Cancer Awareness Month. In accordance with the need to raise awareness to these types of cancer, their impact on Alabama, the need for research and improved screening tests, and support for women battling these diseases, a major initiative was established to encourage cities and businesses across the state to participate in "A State of Teal."

The Laura Crandall Brown Foundation is excited to sponsor this awareness campaign for gynecologic cancers.  These include ovarian, cervical, uterine, vaginal, and vulvar cancers.  This is the fifth year since this effort was first established and it is making a great impact across our state.

In accordance with this campaign, The Honorable Marty Handlon, Mayor of the City of Alabaster, presented a proclamation declaring September Gynecologic Cancer Awareness Month in the City of Alabaster at the City Council meeting on August 22. On hand to accept the proclamation was Cathy Moore, ovarian cancer survivor and Alabaster resident, Tina Wilhems, also an Alabaster resident, and uterine cancer survivor and Laura Crandall Brown Foundation board member, and Jennifer Smiley, A State of Teal committee member and Laura Crandall Brown Foundation board member and treasurer.

Thanks to the City of Alabaster and Mayor Handlon for helping us to raise awareness to the symptoms of GYN cancers!
