A State of Teal Flyer 2016

September is National Gynecologic Cancer Awareness Month. In accordance with the need to raise awareness to these types of cancer, their impact on Alabama, the need for research and improved screening tests, and support for women battling these diseases, a major initiative was established to encourage cities and businesses across the state to participate in "A State of Teal."

The Laura Crandall Brown Foundation is excited to sponsor this awareness campaign for gynecologic cancers.  These include ovarian, cervical, uterine, vaginal, and vulvar cancers.  This is the fifth year since this effort was first established and it is making a great impact across our state.

In accordance with this campaign, The Honorable Sonny Posey, Mayor of the City of Jasper, presented a proclamation declaring September Gynecologic Cancer Awareness Month in the City of Jasper at the City Council meeting on September 6, 2016. On hand to accept the proclamation was Karen Globetti, ovarian cancer survivor and Jasper resident, and Cecilia Crandall, mother of Laura Crandall Brown for whom the Foundation was founded.

In addition to the proclamation, some businesses in the City of Jasper will decorate in teal during the month of September in observance of this initiative. See the articles published by the Daily Mountain Eagle covering this event and these women's stories.

Thanks to the City of Jasper and Mayor Posey for helping us to raise awareness to the symptoms of GYN Cancer!
